My son is gay, what should I do?
My son is gay, someone called me the other day asking for help. And I replied, what help is needed to this? It is against nature, it is against his nature, it is against my beliefs, this is not what I definitely want what can’t you understand? It all started during covid, when locked in the house and my teenagers were looking at this horrible gay films that flooded our TV’s… . One day, my son came to me and said, dad I think I am gay. I like men, not women. The first shock, heart stroke of my life hit me instantly… I enjoy every conversation with my boys, the same with my wife, but this was beyond any expectations. Son, what are you talking about? Have you been touched by anyone? No father, never. So is it in your mind? Yes, father. Son, many things cross our mind daily, millions of thoughts. Why label yourself? Father, it has been some years now and I suffered a lot of stress and decided to share this with you….
I kept listening to all this for some time, trying not to speak but listen mostly… And then I replied, sir, your son will follow his own path of life. He has his own choices in life, he has made the first excellent move by talking to you, sharing with you his inner thoughts. Your son loves you and trusts you fully to share this. I would advice you do the same, trust, love and accept.
Are you serious? He shouted… sir, yes, the only thing your son now needs is acceptance and love, trust and a hug. Whatever your wishes are perhaps are not his wishes. I am sure you have raised a wonderful son with your wife and did a wonderful job as parents. You have raised an honest, mature boy that wants to express his inner directions towards to his sexual orientation. Which of course is different than yours. Try not to destroy this relationship because of this. I can understand you, you wanted something different, but it does not always happen. Your son is asking for guidance, give it to him, show him what self-respect is, show him the correct values of life and let him walk his path…
Respect his choices, respect his attitude towards you. Give him a hug and whisper, son, I love you not your sexual orientations or preferences just in whatever you do, have self-respect and values about life. Enjoy the moments son when feeling the light within you and rest there. This is our meeting point. Our house let be the light and not the darkness.
